why this earthquake make me so intereted?
I estimated so many insurance companies must paid big claims for this earthquake. My friends who go there looked so bad building construction in padang (the biggest city there).
I wont give them a comment,..
I saw the indonesian geologist mailinglist and then Danny hilman N pronouncement in http://www.surya.co.id/2009/10/02/waspadai-gempa-mentawai-padang-baru-pemicu.html. he interpreted that fault in the deep of the subducted crust under sumatera island moved and generated that earthquake.
I saw the USGS body wave moment tensor solutions

that is not the common form of focal mechanism of sumatera subduction, se the historic moment tensor bellow
it is quite different, so there are posibilities that there is one more seismic source that could generated big earthquake and hit the sumatera island besides Great sumatera faults system, mentawai fault, major tectonic subduction force, and fault/faults in indo-australia slab under the island
at thrusday, may 28, 2009 on 08:28:45 UTC earthquake hit honduras. Ana rivera the spokeswoman from emergency commision said to the www.news.com.au there 5 people death in this disaster. earthquake demaged 2 bridges, 50 houses,20 school buildings, 2 public buildings, 2 hotels, factory and church.
this is earthquake parametric, i took from

I am not really understand about honduras sourcezones, but from the images on the left (source from USGS) we could understand the usgs’s summary that said the shock occurred as the result of left-lateral strike-slip faulting on the Swan Islands Transform Fault (the yellow lines are the sources visualisation). and the orange star is epicentre of the earthquake.
left-lateral strike-slip faulting is mechanisme of fault deformation, imagine we stand on a side in front of fault line another side across the faul tline move to the left.

usgs’s momen tensor solution above show us that really strike-slip :p P imaging pressure and T as dilatation area.
strike-slip machanisme will not caused tsunami, because just make a small vertical displacement. we need enough vertical displacement to generate a tsunami.
poor english, ah… i am still learning huh, so sorry hehehehe
